Awakening of Anahata Chakra or Heart Chakra
When you successfully navigate the Vishnu granthi, your kundalini energy settles in the anahat chakra, commonly known as the heart chakra, which embodies love. The yellow hue of the navel chakra blends into this vibrant green heart chakra, resembling a semi-ripe fruit with its dominant green shade accented by hints of yellow. In this chakra, the purifying element of air further cleanses you. Previously, you experienced purification through water at the swadishtan chakra and fire at the manipuraka chakra. However, you still retain a connection to rajo guna. With purification achieved through three of the five fundamental elements of the universe, your yearning for spiritual growth intensifies.

When you successfully navigate the Vishnu granthi, your kundalini energy reaches the anahat chakra, commonly known as the heart chakra, which is associated with love. The yellow hue of the navel chakra blends into this vibrant green heart chakra, resembling a semi-ripe fruit with its dominant green shade accented by hints of yellow. In this chakra, you experience further purification through air, having previously been purified by water at the swadishtan and by fire at the manipuraka. However, you still carry the influence of rajo guna. As you undergo purification through three of the five fundamental elements, your yearning for spirituality intensifies. It’s important to acknowledge that you remain connected to desires. Love flows both ways for you. The term anahat signifies the concept of endlessness. From this chakra onward, you are evolving into a state of boundless love, reflecting a positive transformation in your perspective. You start to appreciate the essence of humanity. The fire ignited in the navel chakra is invigorated by the air from the heart chakra, empowering the kundalini. This area is believed to be the dwelling place of the soul. The Katha Upanishad states that the purusha, likened to the size of a thumb, resides in the center of our being. It’s essential to clarify that purusha refers to the jiva, not the Brahman, as the Brahman cannot be confined to a specific form or location; it is omnipresent. In this context, purusha signifies the soul, where our karmic history is stored. The heart chakra is the focal point mentioned here, underscoring its significance. This chakra uniquely expands over vast distances, radiating universal love. Positioned within the spinal column, it is in close proximity to the biological heart, which is why it is referred to as the heart and soul—where the heart represents the physical organ and the soul denotes the jiva.
To activate this chakra, hold your breath for a few seconds. There is another bhandha you should be aware of at this stage, which we have previously discussed. This involves bending your head forward, known as jalandra bhandha. The term jalandra refers to a net, symbolizing the intricate network of nerves in the neck region. This bhandha primarily serves to activate the visudhi chakra, the next higher chakra. Additionally, it facilitates the ascent of kundalini from the naval chakra to the higher chakras. Take a deep breath, hold it, and bend your head forward so that your chin approaches your chest. Maintain this position for a few seconds, then return your head to its normal position and exhale slowly. It is crucial to exhale slowly and adjust the timing of your breath-holding accordingly. Holding your breath for too long can lead to gasping, which should be avoided. Prioritize avoiding gasping over the duration of breath-holding; a few seconds is sufficient. The heart chakra can be easily activated by cultivating love. When this chakra is fully developed, your concentration improves, enhancing your oratory skills and enabling you to deliver impromptu speeches effectively. If you encounter challenges in activating this chakra, you can place your fingertips on it for a few minutes from the front. The energy from your fingertips will help activate this chakra. Continued meditation on this chakra will further develop and expand it.
