Śrī Vidyā embodies auspicious knowledge, with all elements tied to Lalitāmbikā regarded as beneficial. The process dedicated to achieving her grace is known as Sri Vidya Sadhana. This sacred knowledge is typically imparted through initiation, where a guru guides a disciple into the practice. At this initiation, the disciple is introduced to the mantra japa, often starting with the Pañchadaśī mantra or another chosen by the guru. The initial phase frequently involves Bālā, a younger aspect of Lalitāmbikā, which will be further explored in future discussions. As the disciple progresses, they might receive additional mantras, including the Pañchadaśī and the ṣodaśī. The highest form of mantra japa linked to Lalitāmbikā is mahā-ṣodaśī, which aims to lead the practitioner towards liberation. The relationship between a guru and a disciple remains significant until the disciple achieves personal growth and independence. It's essential to clarify the terms “Guru” versus ‘guru’; the former refers to a Self-realized being, while the latter signifies someone who has merely studied tantra texts and performs associated rituals, often claiming authority over Śrī Vidyā. The initiated mantras are to be repeated a specified number of times, after which the disciple is expected to carry out additional rituals, such as fire offerings. Completing this entire journey enables the disciple to establish a connection with Lalitāmbikā. Alongside mantra japa, the guru teaches the disciple how to conduct ritual worship of the Śrī Chakra. The disciple is expected to recite specific mūla mantras (like Pañchadaśī or ṣodaśī) daily, engage in ritual worship of the Śrī Chakra, and then meditate. The core of Śrī Vidyā revolves around cultivating this vital relationship between the guru and the disciple.
