Kundalini and Karma: Understanding Their Connection

Receiving kundalini initiation from a truly knowledgeable Guru is always the best choice. Only a Guru who has authentically mastered the kundalini energy can facilitate this initiation. Although finding such exceptional masters can be a challenge in today's world, they are still present in various locations. A genuine master will not request payment for the initiation; however, it is customary for you to offer an appropriate form of compensation, known as guru dakshana.

It is always advisable to seek kundalini initiation from a knowledgeable Guru. Only a Guru who has truly mastered kundalini can perform this initiation. While it can be challenging to find such exceptional masters today, they do exist in various places. A genuine master will never charge you for initiation; however, you are expected to offer a token of appreciation, known as guru dakshana, based on what you feel is appropriate. It is also important to contribute to your Guru, as receiving initiation without any form of offering is not fair, though this contribution should align with your financial situation. A true Guru will not ask for anything in return other than your commitment and devotion. Unfortunately, kundalini meditation has recently turned into a commercial enterprise, which hinders many from experiencing true bliss. In our previous discussion, we touched on the base chakra, or muladhara chakra. Regular practice of moolabhandha can lead to health issues like piles, so caution is advised. It is wise to avoid spicy foods while engaging in kundalini meditation. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, along with regular walking and stretching exercises, will be beneficial. In the early stages of activating the base chakra, you may experience pre-kundalini syndrome. Ancient texts strongly suggest that when kundalini ascends to the sahasrara chakra, all karmas will be erased. Thus, progress in kundalini meditation is also influenced by our karmas. The base chakra is closely linked to our karmic actions. If we maintain a positive karmic balance, we are likely to advance in our kundalini practice.

The initial milestone on our spiritual journey is reached when the kundalini energy rises past the base chakra and penetrates the brahma granthi, ensuring a stable ascent. The signs of spiritual awakening become apparent once the base chakra is fully energized. This allows us to meditate more effectively and for extended periods. As the kundalini energy travels upward, we may feel warmth in our spine, indicating that the higher chakras are prepared to receive her. Additionally, we may notice an increase in our water intake, although we still find ourselves attached to worldly desires. To facilitate the ascent of the kundalini, hip rotation exercises can be beneficial. Place your hands on your hips and rotate your head to the left as far as possible, ensuring your body remains relaxed to allow for a smooth turn. Return to the starting position and repeat the movement on the right side. As you turn, inhale deeply, and exhale as you return to the neutral position. Maintain this rhythm on both sides, ensuring that your inhalation aligns with the turning motion and your exhalation coincides with returning to center. This synchronization is crucial, as the upward movement of the kundalini is closely linked to our breath. Each chakra is associated with a specific number of lotus petals, totaling 51 petals across the six chakras, which corresponds to the number of letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each chakra is also linked to a particular Goddess, adding layers of significance to this practice. While delving into these details may test your patience, it is essential to recognize that activating the higher chakras is contingent upon the full activation of the lower ones, particularly the muladhara chakra.
